Boom

Here's a marker one from the show. I used a ruler. Didn't use a compass though. Probably should have. Ok, time to go to sleep so I can wake up early to sit at a desk and not draw!

And number 2

Here's the next one, also too gigantic for my poor computer. The silhouettes are from a photo I took on President Street here in Baltimore. I bought an extra extendable compass and put extra long markers in it for those damn circles, some of them are 2 feet in diameter! The colors are way brighter and more awesome in person, I guess some of these markers don't translate to RGB. I also made a page of just concentric circles that I didn't put in the art show, maybe I'll scan it in later.

Finally!

Ok, the art show came down and I brought the bigger pieces into work to scan on our big fancy scanner. And man, that thing is nice. The resulting images were so hi-res that I had to erase like a whole gig from my hard drive before I could even open them. And then sizing and color balancing... don't even get me started. Anyway, here's my favorite one. I decided to do it first.

OK I'm back

Yeah, I've been missing for a couple months, I know... The truth is, I got a job! Yay for my bank account, boo for my artwork (I have to wake up at 6 am now). That started in April. Then Dainty and I decided to have an art show, which got me to frantically make a bunch of drawings, and I didn't leave any time to go scan them (they're too big for my regular scanner), so you'll have to wait till the art show comes down to see them. In summary: I made a bunch of crap, but I can't show it to you yet, I swear I'm not lying. BUT: the other day, Alex and I decided we should act like artists and walk down to The Walters to draw sculptures. So here's my first real sketch in months (I brought colored pencils):

I should probably do this more. I was super frustrated and angry about the statue's hair for the first 20 minutes, and then I calmed down and got really into it. Then we tried to find faberge eggs, and gave up after a few minutes because we got hungry.

Note: my art show comes down in 10 days, at which point I will be posting 7 (goodness me) finished drawings. Then maybe back to sketches.

I dunno, wheat?

Clouds are fun. Next I'll do more clouds.

And even more

Well, seaweed's fun to do. Flowers kinda suck.

More brush pen

Stuff on my desk mostly... and a girl with big 60's hair

Thursday, March 24, 2011

Ok, ok, getting better with the brush pen

I was looking at a Mitch O'Connell book for a while today, and trying to copy his faces. And then I tried to copy Alex's hair. I'm starting to get the hang of it. Alex came over halfway through and drew an eye (as designated by the arrow, and by the fact that it's the only non-girlish eye).

Sweaty hair

Drew this outta my head... it reminds me of how I'm gonna feel in 2 months when it's a million degrees and I'm sitting in a pool of my own sweat, only instead of smiling slightly I'll be whimpering and pounding my fists on the air conditioner.

Starting to like these brush pens

It takes me a while to get a really pointy line, I think I'm getting a little better. But damn, it's hard to do hair that looks normal.

Fuzzles

Woo, I colored it in! I used one of Alex's brush pens for the black, and various colored pencil leads for everything else.

Simple line drawing

Maybe I'll add some color later today.

Green lead

I have so many 2mm leads. I might buy this soon.

I have a really small sketchbook

Really, it's about 2" x 3", I carry it around all the time in case I get bored somewhere.

Continued

Colored more, maybe I'll even out the edges. And maybe I'll make some more like this, but bigger and with more colors, since I'm supposed to have an art show with Dainty in June.

Shineys

Started this today, didn't have a lot of drawing time. Mostly laundry and job hunting.

Husband - wife collaboration

I sketched this out for Alex, for him to add to an album cover he's doing. Maybe you'll see it over on his blog soon? And then I can scribble on it and put it on my blog again. Ah, collaboration.

I know, I know,

I skipped TWO whole days, I'm such a slacker. But to catch up I'm posting 3 sketches, so shut up already.

This one's from a picture, in a book, of a statue. Except the swirls on the right, those weren't there.

And then this one is part of a t-shirt I'm drawing for somebody...

And THIS one is just a page of doodles that happened while I was testing out some pens and pencils. It counts.

So there we go. Gonna try not to skip days again, unless I'm away from the internet for a long period of time, which sounds kinda nice actually. But in that case I'll cheat and do scheduled postings, so you won't even know the difference. Ha.

I like drawing tiny planets

I can't stop, oh well.

Playing with the compass

I have all these different colored leads, so I spent like an hour putting each one in my compass and drawing circles. Time well spent. Here's one of the pages.

Monday, March 7, 2011

Star circles, wiggly tree

I like this one. It reminds me of the Paramount logo, but instead of a mountain there's a tree throwing BBs in the air, yay!

Sunday, March 6, 2011

Swirlies

Ok, I didn't actually draw this today... I found it in an older sketchbook and felt like scanning it. Gonna draw some stuff after I press publish, so there.

Saturday, March 5, 2011

Nevermind, I drew a fake diagram

It's not finished yet... I want a job making space diagrams, that would be so much fun.

Friday, March 4, 2011

Back to teeny stars

Meh, I don't really like this one. I started a circle-related drawing, maybe I'll post that tomorrow.

Thursday, March 3, 2011

Whatever

Couldn't think of anything to draw, so I drew my hand. With a nice pastel glamour-shot background. Does it look like a man hand? I swear I don't have man hands.

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

Cutesy stars

Yeah, so I drew it like this:

But then I flipped it over and I think it makes more sense-- I mean, as much sense as this drawing can really make. You know, cause there are balloons tied to the moon instead of shiny ornaments hanging from it...?

Cartoony rose window

Kinda wiggly micron pen drawing with colored pencil. Actually mechanical colored pencils, from jetpens.com, I love them.

Monday, February 28, 2011

Oh, just my ceiling

So, my apartment has some pretty nice (hundred-year-old) decorative trim... And man, it's a huge pain to draw. You can see where I started to give up. I like the corinthian column though!

Sunday, February 27, 2011

Still goin!

What's this? Who knows. I drew it with some color micron pens. I'm gonna call it Moldy Starfruit Slices Thrown on a Pile of Hay.

Right now I'm having trouble combining my two blogger accounts into one. I'm pretty sure it's Google's fault that I can't do it, since I'm the most computer-savvy person there is...

New Year's resolution, 2 months later

Ok, ok. Last year didn't really go as planned. I got a day job -- which was good for me, but bad for my free time...

But guess what? I left my job! So here goes my umpteenth try at posting something every day. I actually drew this on new year's, around midnight, at a bar. So I'll start there.
